Brian Baxter
Brian still enjoys occasional outdoor or "Plein Air" excursions to paint or sketch on location, but now works mainly from his studio in Blenheim. His philosophy regarding painting is that if you can spend your working life making a livelihood from your hobby, or passion, and sharing it with others, then you are indeed a very lucky person.

Brian Baxter has, over the last 40 odd years, established himself as one of New Zealand's most sought after artists in the field of landscape, still life, flower and portrait studies. Until 1973 he ran his own signwriting business in Blenheim, but has painted professionally since then, winning the prestigious Kelliher first prize for NZ landscapes in 1977. Brian has exhibited in all NZ main centres as well as in Adelaide and Washington DC. He works in oils, watercolours and acrylics in a "traditional representational" style and his paintings hang in collections throughout the world. Five overseas tours since 2000 have produced paintings from Italy, UK, Europe, USA, Pacific Islands and Australia, but his main source of inspiration is still New Zealand, "the most beautiful country in the world". |
